1 . Lecture--Composition
This lecture introduced the basic principles of composition and visual hierarchy in graphic design. Composition refers to how visual elements such as text, images, colors, and shapes are arranged within a layout. A good composition helps communicate ideas clearly and makes a design more visually appealing and organized.Visual hierarchy is an important design principle that guides viewers on what to look at first. Designers create hierarchy by using differences in size, color, contrast, spacing, and typography. Large and bold elements usually attract attention first, while smaller elements provide supporting information. This helps audiences understand information more effectively. The lecture also explained several important composition principles, including balance, contrast, emphasis, alignment, repetition, proximity, and white space. Balance creates stability in a design, while contrast helps important elements stand out. Emphasis creates a focal point, and alignment keeps layouts clean and organized. Repetition and proximity improve consistency and readability, while white space prevents designs from looking crowded.
Typography plays a major role in visual hierarchy. Different font sizes, weights, and styles can affect readability and emotional impact. Proper typography helps organize information clearly and improves the overall user experience.Color was another important topic discussed in the lecture. Colors can attract attention, create emotions, and strengthen visual hierarchy. Designers often use contrasting colors to highlight key information while maintaining harmony within the composition. The lecture included many poster and graphic design examples to demonstrate how professional designers apply composition and hierarchy principles in real projects. These examples showed the creative use of grids, typography, color combinations, and image placement to create effective and visually engaging designs.Overall, the lecture emphasized that strong composition and visual hierarchy are essential in graphic design because they improve communication, readability, and visual impact.

5 . Reflections
This collage project helped me learn how to combine different images and text together in one composition. At first, it was difficult for me to arrange all the elements because I was not sure where to place them. I tried different pre-compositions before choosing the final design. My theme is related to nature and travel. I used forest images, magazine-style text, and a person looking at the scenery to create a calm and meaningful feeling. I wanted to show that nature is alive and important to us. The sentence “LOOK, THE FOREST IS BREATHING” became the main focus of my collage.During this project, I also learned how to balance the composition and make the design look more organized. I adjusted the size, position, and overlap of the elements many times. Even though it was challenging, I enjoyed experimenting with different layouts.Overall, this project improved my creativity and collage-making skills. I also became more confident in using design software and arranging visual elements together.
